Alfred Bear, and His Amazing Suit

Hello, it’s Alfred Bear again. I’ve just had the best weekend ever, all thanks to my human owner Janet and Auntie Lynda.

Lynda is Human Dad’s little sister and in a few weeks’ time she’s getting married to Frank. I like him -  he’s got a furry face like me. They’re having a Big Wedding, and Janet is going to be a Flower Girl! That’s even better than being a bridesmaid apparently because she gets to walk in front of Lynda instead of behind. (Maybe she has to shine a torch or something. I got lost inside a church once and it was very dark. )

Ted, another teddy bear who I share the wardrobe shelf with, said it’s tradition and nothing to do with holding torches. Auntie Lynda will walk down the aisle with Janet’s Granddad, so he can give her away to Frank. I wonder if that is like giving away a Christmas present?

I had a peek at Auntie Lynda’s wedding dress, and it’s full of ribbons and bows. It’s also very puffy, like a great big cloud. I mean one of those fluffy white summery ones, not the sort you get just before a flash-bang-wallop thunderstorm.

The way I know what The Dress looks like is because Janet and Auntie Lynda took me shopping on Saturday. Not to Tesco as usual but to the Bridal Shop. Janet’s little brother Ollie came with us, because the shop sells pageboy outfits. That caused a bit of A Scene on Saturday morning, with Auntie Lynda and Human Mum, Janet’s Mum, prising his fingers off the doorframe one by one, and Ollie clamping them back on again. Auntie Lynda said it was like trying to unhook an octopus, but somehow Human Mum and Auntie Lynda wrestled him into the car.

The bridal shop was like a big perfumed meringue nest, full of ladies trying on long frothy dresses and chattering about it. Suddenly a group of giggly little girls came running over – the other bridesmaids at Lynda and Frank’s wedding. In no time at all, Janet was being dragged away to pick out dresses, leaving me and Ollie all alone, and feeling very outnumbered because we were the only boys in the shop.

Auntie Lynda, who was there for her Final Fitting, whispered to Janet that she had a “little surprise” for me. I wondered what it would be and was very impatient waiting for Auntie Lynda to pay for Janet’s dress and bundle everybody back in the car.

Finally, we arrived back at Janet’s house and I spied a little bag – which I guessed must have had The Surprise in it. What could it possibly be?

Auntie Lynda settled Janet and Ollie in the sitting room and then gave Janet the tiny bag. Well, wouldn’t you know it – it was a fantabulous suit and tie, just for me! It’s just like the one Ollie is going to wear at the wedding  next weekend. I think I'm going to be Best Bear at Auntie Lynda’s wedding!
